Bispidine derivatives as an efficient platform for targeted PET imaging.

In particular with CuII, bispidine ligands have fast complexation kinetics under mild conditions and high complex stabilities, and are therefore well suited for 64Cu positron emission tomography imaging and might also be useful for 67Cu radiotherapy. This is also supported by a high resistance towards demetalation and trans-chelation in serum and in vivo. Moreover, these ligands have various functional groups, which may be used for coupling to biological vectors and fluorescence molecules for multimodal imaging. Fundamental aspects of bispidine coordination chemistry, the preparation, optimization, characterization and applications of bispidine probes and extensions of this work towards other metal ions will be discussed.
